Today, you will be transferred by a private car to Oudomxay. Situated to the upper North, Oudomxay welcomes tourists by its untouched nature and the charming beauty of different hill tribes. The province is also one of the best places for cloud-hunting in Laos. Oudomxay is famous for trekking; waterfalls or cave visits; intrepid experiences like off-road cycling or off-road motorcycling; ecotourism to the tribal villages or natural reserve, etc.
You will have an opportunity to stop at local villages along the way towards Oudomxay including Khamu, Hmong & Tai Lue, arrive at your hotel in the early afternoon.
After your check-in, you will depart from the Tour's information center around 2:00 pm. We will drive by resort car towards Nam Kat waterfall for about 5 km, then trek and walk over 13 sky bridges about 1km to Nam Kat Waterfall, enjoy and explore there before we abseil and come back to Tour's information center.(17)
The rest of the day, you can discover another life in the middle of a protected rainforest, on the banks of the Nam Kat River.
Muang La is an exceptional place to experience the beauty of rural Laos, using the stunning NamKat YorlaPa as a comfortable base. There are a number of gentle walks in the village rice fields, and longer hikes to surrounding hill tribe settlements, that can be matched to individual fitness levels.
Today, after your breakfast at the hotel. Travel by vehicle to Muang La where you will discover hill tribe villages. A day of meeting with three typical communities of northern Laos: Khamu, Hmong and Akha or Ikho. At an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, the views over the valley are superb.
Your visit will go from a Khamu village (Lao Theung) to a Hmong village (Lao Soung), an ethnic group originating from the high steppes of Tibet, with a way of life very in harmony with the fauna and flora.Picnic lunch then return to the Lodge, you will stop en route at the Akha village.
Nong Khiaw is a small town located four hours upstream from Luang Prabang, on the banks of the Nam Ou River and situated amidst stunning karst limestone formations. Your drive today (approximately 4 hours) will again pass through some of northern Laos' spectacular mountain scenery and village life. Upon arrival at Nong Khiaw you will check into your riverside accommodation before enjoying some free time for lunch and for exploring this unassuming town.
This afternoon you will take a short trip to Tham Pha Thok caves. These caves were used by villagers for shelter during the American bombing raids of the Indochina conflict. The caves are extremely vast inside and capable of sheltering thousands of people. N.b. extreme care must be taken in these caves as there are numerous levels accessible only by bamboo ladders and there is no artificial lighting.
Travel down the tranquil river, flanked by mountains and small villages, until you reach Muang Ngoi, a quaint village nestled in the foothills of giant limestone karsts. The town is only accessible by boat and has only one main street that remains unpaved.
After breakfast you will take a slow boat upstream on the Nam Ou River (approximately 1 hour) to the stunning village of Muang Ngoi. This town is situated on the foothill of a giant limestone outcrop. As a result of its natural beauty, it recently became a popular stop off point for anyone cruising the Nam Ou River. You shall begin your exploration of this region with a trek to Tham Kaang Cave, which was also used by local inhabitants for shelter during the Indochina conflicts.
After lunch at a local restaurant on your own pocket, cruise upstream to Ban Sop Cham, known for the production of some of the finest weaving in the country before reboarding your boat for the cruise back to Nong Khiaw to enjoy another special sunset over the limestone formations.
OPTIONAL: Rise early this morning for a short trek to Phou Pha Daeng Viewpoint for Sunrise and panoramic view of Nong Khiaw town and its surroundings.
After breakfast, you will travel to Luang Prabang by vehicle. On the way back to Luang Prabang, take ferry across the Mekong to visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. Locally referred to as Tam Ting, these two caves are carved out of towering limestone cliffs and contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues. Continue to Luang Prabang by vehicle.
Rise early this morning to see robed Buddhist monks collecting alms, following a centuries-old ritual. Visit Mount Phou Si for a sunrise, afterwards explore a morning market on foot. You will see and sample some of the delectable Lao fruits and snacks that make up the local diet. Return to your hotel for a leisurely breakfast.
After breakfast, begin your exploration of Luang Prabang with a short walking tour of the UNESCO heritage-listed old town, visit one of its most beatiful temples Wat Xieng Thong. Next, visit the National Museum, formerly Royal Palace, full of fine examplesof Lao art and furniture and the former residence of the now deposed royal family.
In the afternoon, be transferred to a rustic pavillion (modelled on a traditional Lao house) in a picturesque setting on the outskirts of Luang Prabang (ten minutes from the town centre). After a warm welcome your guide will explain how bamboo is a key part of Lao culture and how numerous items found in traditional Lao households are actually made from the versatile bamboo plant - these include fishing tools and musical instruments. Then, try your hand at weaving a souvenir mat made from strips of the bamboo plant! Learn how the bamboo plant also plays a vital role in everyday Lao cuisine. In a hands-on demonstration, assist a chef in cooking delicious dishes such as bamboo shoot soup, bamboo shoot steamed in banana leaf, and bamboo shoot dip. After class, relax on the pavillion terrace and savour your culinary creations with views of the countryside. Dinner included.
Depart your hotel (8:30am) by private vehicle for a 50 minute drive in a westerly direction to the village of Long Lao, the starting point for today’s trek. This rustic village is little-visited by tourists, is nestled inside a picturesque valley and consists of ethnic Hmong and Kamu enclaves. The Hmong people are known as ‘Lao Seung’ highlanders, who traditionally inhabit the higher peaks of the mountainous Lao countryside – however the village in the Long Lao valley has re-settled to this lower altitude. A Hmong trekking guide will join you and your Lao guide, to lead your trek of three hours of walking time. Begin first with an ascent to a skyline ridge, offering views over Long Lao village and its enclosing valley. On the way, you might see crops of rice, coriander, chilli, and local herbs planted by local villagers who live in the valley. Follow a marked trail, which will be steep in parts, and slippery in the wet season (from April to September) – make sure you wear sturdy boots or shoes. Arrive at Kuang Si Falls, Swim in the turquoise waters, or simply explore the beautiful surrounds. Enjoy free time before visiting a nearby sanctuary which cares for and rehabilitates bears rescued from animal traders, or from deforested habitat. Return to Luang Prabang, stopping as you like at Lao Buffalo Dairy Farm or local village for photos of countryside and villages. Lunch included.
